162: Deep Rooted Wisdom: Unveiling the Metaphor of the Tree
APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY
No matter where you live, the seasons are probably changing right now to some extent.
For us here in Southern California, we are finally seeing sunny skies 🌤️ and warm weather, and after a year of record rain ⛈️, boy, are we ready!
But this turn in the seasons and our recent trekking to 🏔️ Mount Everest Base Camp has us thinking about all things nature, so we want to chat about something in nature that fascinates us and maybe learn a thing or two about wealth along the way.
Have you ever really taken the time to look around and look up at the trees 🌳?
For us, there’s something majestic about the sway of a palm tree in the breeze.
Or maybe you are lucky enough to have a regal oak or stunning maple tree in your neighborhood or backyard. No matter where you live, trees are such a symbol of beauty and grace.
You might be familiar with a poem by Joyce Kilmer titled ‘Trees,’ where she states, ‘I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree.”
Wow – what a sentiment‼️
Not only are trees lovely to look at, like most things in this world, they are also incredibly complex.
You see, trees possess a few hidden tricks when it comes to their development as they perform a simultaneous dance guided by two fascinating concepts – gravitropism and phototropism.
These terms may sound fancy, but they hold the key to understanding the awe-inspiring mechanisms behind tree growth. 😲😲
First, let’s explore gravitropism, and what it means.
We will start by examining the fascinating underground escapades of tree roots – that’s what gravitropic is all about!
Picture this: deep down in the darkness, amidst the chilly and damp surroundings, these determined seeds toil away, constructing an intricate network of roots.
Can you believe it?
All this remarkable groundwork happens even before they consider sprouting above the surface.
It’s truly impressive, isn’t it?
But it all happens behind the scenes.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the flashy phenomenon known as phototropism.
This part is the shining ✨ star of the show.
It’s the superhero drenched in sunlight, captivating our attention.
This process is when trees stretch upward, reaching for the heavens, as if on a mission to absorb every ray of sunlight.
It embodies growth, the part that leaves everyone in awe and wonder.
Many individuals like you and us yearn for phototropic-like growth in their businesses and finances.
👉 They crave that instant gratification, the kind that commands attention and turns heads.
However, little do they realize that the most successful people in history share a secret… just like our tree 🌳 friends.
The trick 💡 here is to follow the tree’s lead.
We know that sounds really whimsical, but what this really means is that just like a tree, in order to grow up, you must first grow down. It’s like a philosophical dance move where sacrifices are made.
They sacrifice financially, invest their time, nurture relationships, dedicate themselves to their businesses, and even make sacrifices within their families.
They embark on this journey, diving into the depths like a rabbit hole, establishing their roots and fortifying their foundations.
Why, you may ask? Well, the answer is quite simple. By doing so, they equip themselves to withstand any storm that may arise.
Whether it be a fierce windstorm, a torrential downpour, or any other adversity, they bravely confront it head-on, armed with the resilience nurtured by their roots. ☝🏻
Some people experience their “10 minutes of fame”, their moment in the spotlight.
But just like the name suggests, it’s often super short-lived.
✔️ Do you remember the viral sensation of the “Damn, Daniel” video in 2016? The video, originally posted on Snapchat, featured a teenager named Daniel and his friend, Josh, humorously complimenting Daniel’s outfits.
The catchphrase “Damn, Daniel” quickly gained popularity and spread across social media platforms, leading to interviews on TV shows 📺 and numerous media appearances for the duo.
However, their fame was relatively short-lived, fading away after a brief period, highlighting the transient nature of such viral phenomena and their limited time in the spotlight.
Sadly, these 10 minutes of fame peeps tend to overlook the essential process of gravitropic growth, becoming fixated solely on the superficial allure above ground.
Yet, here’s the truth: this kind of rapid success lacks sustainability. 😔😟
Regardless of how impressive a tree may seem or how plentiful its fruits, without a nourished root system, it is all in vain.
It’s akin to a tree attempting to survive without a single drop of water—an ultimately futile endeavor.
We think that there’s a profound lesson to be learned here for those who aspire to build generational or legacy wealth. Behind the glamorous facade, there are intricate mechanisms at work that many disregard. Concealed in the shadows, one must willingly sacrifice immediate gratification for the sake of a grander vision.
Keep in mind too that this transformation won’t occur in the blink of an eye.
It’s definitely not as simple as snapping your fingers and becoming an instant billionaire. 🌈
The great thing is that if you play your cards right and make strategic moves and understand the importance of building a solid foundation before aiming for the stars, you become a master of sacrifice.
You willingly embrace temporary discomfort for the sake of long-term success.
You immerse yourself in a world of education, podcasts, YouTube, seminars, and meetups—things that might make your friends question your sanity.
They may raise an eyebrow, but remember, you’re the clever visionary. You know precisely what you’re doing. You’re paying the price today to secure a future abundant with prosperity. 👐🏻
That’s exactly why the metaphor of the tree resonates deeply with us.
It carries a profound message about patience and enduring growth. 🤓🤓
It tells tales of the bountiful rewards awaiting those who are willing to invest the necessary effort.
You see, finance is a skill that demands the right seeds, diligent planting, and dedicated cultivation.
Without them, long-term success and prosperity remain distant dreams. ❤️🥰
As you embark on your financial journey, always remember to hold the wisdom of the tree dear.
Prioritize growing down before reaching for the sky. Embrace the transformative process, nurture your roots, and witness the remarkable unfoldment of sustainable growth right before your eyes. We can’t wait to see you succeed and grow.
As we wrap things up, we would like to leave you with the timeless wisdom of Alfred Lord Tennyson in his poem titled ‘The Oak’ (slightly outdated in verbiage, yet ever-relevant) ⏬
“Live thy life,
Young and old,
Like yon oak,
Bright in spring,
Living gold;
Summer-rich
Then; and then
Autumn-changed,
Soberer hued
Gold again.
All his leaves
Fall’n at length,
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough,
Naked strength.”
